Since 2005, we have been working to make health a universal right.

Who we are/Our Story

Our Story

2005
We are an Italian and secular association, founded in Milan in 2005 by the will of a small group of professionals, mainly operating in the medical area and in international relations, and from their desire to dedicate themselves to the others.
In 2005, we built a dispensary on the island of Sakatia, in the north of Madagascar, with about 1,500 inhabitants. There were no medical facilities or pharmacies on the island. We have, therefore, built a dispensary equipped with a delivery room, a dental room, a tocograph and a nurse for administering medications and injections.
In 2005, Change was recognized as a Non-Profit Organization of Social Utility (ONLUS). In addition, since 2010, Change has been part of Colomba, the Association of International Cooperation and Solidarity Organizations of Lombardy. Finally, in 2021 Change was recognized as a Third Sector Entity (ETS).
2011
In 2011, based on Law No. 96-030 of April 14, 1997 and Decree No. 96-711 of September 2, 1998 issued by the Government of Madagascar, Change Onlus NGO was founded, recognized as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and based in Ampefy. Change Onlus NGO acts as a local partner of Change Italia, ensuring a constant presence on the Malagasy territory in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the projects and to report the concrete needs of the local population.
2014
In 2014, the Saint Paul Medical-Surgical Center was inaugurated in the village of Ampefy, a few kilometers from the capital, Antananarivo. The Center is our headquarters and main healthcare reference point for the region.
2016
In 2016, our nutrition project began in collaboration with NutriAid. The objective of the project is to combat child malnutrition, endemic in the region.
2017
In 2017, Change purchased 1,400 m2 of land with the objective of cultivating Moringa Oleifera, a plant with a high content of proteins, salts, and vitamins. The powder obtained from the leaves is used as a supplement to flours for the treatment of moderate malnutrition and is administered to children and pregnant women during our distribution rounds.
2024
In collaboration with the University of Valencia, we have expanded the nutrition project, integrating epidemiological studies in order to improve the impact of our activities. We have launched scientific research projects on maternal and child malnutrition, shifting the focus from treatment to prevention with a view to long-term sustainability.
2023
During this year, we expanded the offer of our services by adding new hospital rooms, a rehabilitation gym for disabled children, a laundry room and various warehouses.
Since January 2024, we have been offering free daily meals in the canteen of Ampefy's Saint-Therese elementary school, close to Change's medical center. The canteen provides lunch for about 300 children every day of the school week.
