The specialized activities were carried out by Malagasy ophthalmologists, coordinated by Prof. Léa Raobela, Chef de service d'Ophtalmologie at CHU JRA (University Hospital of the Capital), and President of the SMO (Société Malgasche Ophthalmologie); the team consisted of 53 ophthalmologists.
They have been carried out eye exams free “mass”, which have made it possible to identify 150 adults and 75 children suffering from eye diseases of a different nature. 50 free cataract surgeries were performed.

The Saint Paul Surgical Medical Center has supported all these activities by providing its spaces, equipment and all the own personal.
During their stay at the Center, the healthcare staff supported the ophthalmologists to support clinical activities, in particular the surgical ones; the non-healthcare staff assisted the patients for the entire time they stayed at the Center, both helping to prepare those to undergo surgery (personal hygiene, specific clothing, transport to and from the hospital), and verifying their needs, especially for those with motor difficulties, both related to age and reduced visual capacity.
