Six months of Martina's Civil Service

Fihavanana It is a Malagasy word that encompasses a broad concept of kinship, friendship and benevolence between beings, both physical and spiritual.

A Malagasy proverb goes: 'Ny Fihavanana notaloha ny vola', which translated means 'the relationship is more important than money'.

buts Fihavanana It is more than just a relationship, it stems from the belief that we are all of the same blood and that the way we treat others will ultimately reflect on us; that we should be proactive in terms of benevolence for the good of the world.

To describe my first six months in Madagascar, I chose this word, because it clearly expresses the most precious thing I have encountered.

I have met many people who brought me into a united community and who welcomed me with the warmth of a big family. Thanks to them, day after day, I can discover more and more this country and its culture, to make it slowly, slowly a little more at home.

“Si il n' y a pas de fihavanana il n' y a pasd'amour. Si il y a le fihavanana l'amour exists.”
(If there isn't Fihavanana there is no love. If there is Fihavanana, love exists).
