One year later: dental prevention continues

Back home from the November 2024 mission, we already felt the desire to start again, because at Ampefy we always leave a piece of our heart.

Coming back is always exciting, it almost feels like you've never left; everything is very natural and spontaneous.
For the first time, only two of us left, Irene, the third dentist, followed us from home because she was expecting. Initially we were a bit fearful, but we were greeted by the whole MAP house and the kids at the hospital with great warmth. During the work we were able to count on the precious help of Madame Joseline, a sweet lady who always knows how to find the right words for us and for the patients, and with her calm and experience she manages to make everything easier. His presence was fundamental: he gave us security during the work.
Important help also came from Martina, who every day supported us in difficult times and allowed us to work with all the tools always in order.

Thanks to their support, we were able to do a great job: we visited 336 patients, performing 386 extractions and 101 fillings.
We also worked in a village, where we were hosted in the home of a local family. It was exciting to see how they opened their doors and welcomed us; a special moment that we will remember forever.

This year we continued the prevention project started last year, because it is increasingly necessary to teach children oral hygiene and make brushing their teeth a habit.

We are really happy with the results achieved: thanks to the help of many people, we were able to collect 5,000 toothbrushes. We didn't expect such great and heartfelt support, it was really exciting to see so much participation.

Special thanks go to A.P.S.P. Casa Mia, who took our project to heart, making it their own, mobilizing many people who in a short time have collected thousands of toothbrushes.

Thanks to this collection, we were able to guarantee the continuity of toothbrushes for several years to the children of the Ambatomboro school. In a year we have seen how much more aware they have become in their daily teeth cleaning, and the visible improvements in their smiles have been a great satisfaction for everyone.

Back home full of joy, we know that our mission does not end here: we want to be able to expand this small project to more schools and more children, hoping that it can spread quickly.
